- Nitrous oxide (laughing gas)
Nitrous oxide/oxygen (N2O-O2) is a blend of two gases – oxygen and nitrous oxide. A fitted mask is placed over the nose, and, as the patient breathes normally, uptake occurs through the lungs. At the end of treatment, the nitrous oxide is eliminated after the patient breathes oxygen for a short period of time. There are no lingering effects. Nitrous oxide sedation does not require someone to accompany the patient, and there is no need for fasting.
Sedation options are available for procedures ranging from cleanings to extractions. Other sedation options are available and are based on a one-on-one patient consultation.
