You will continue to be numb for a few hours after anesthetic is initially given, varying with the type and amount of anesthetic administered. Lower teeth tend to stay numb longer than upper teeth. The area where anesthetic is administered may also be tender for a couple of days. Please be careful not to bite your lip, cheek or tongue while still numb. Until the anesthetic wears off, we recommend foods that are not hot, cold, chewy or hard to avoid burning or biting the tissues inside your mouth.
